Artificial intelligence is no longer just a frontier technology – it is a tool reshaping how economies grow. AI has the potential to transform productivity across every sector. The key, however, lies not just in invention, but in adoption.

For Colombia, the stakes are especially high. Labour productivity sits at just 29% of the OECD average, with small gains across agriculture, manufacturing, and services. But AI, as a general-purpose technology, provides an opportunity to telescope past some of these challenges. 

Although Colombia is making progress, just 2 – 3% of Latin American businesses use AI compared to higher rates in Asia and North America. As we discussed, with the right policies in place – support for SMEs, targeted training, and sector-specific AI adoption roadmaps – Colombia can turn AI into an engine of inclusive growth, positioning itself as a regional leader in digital transformation.
